1960-1969
Club Car started out producing golf cars, but soon branched out to include small utility vehicles. Its founder, Bill Stevens, Sr., bought Landreath Machine in Dallas, TX and moved it to Augusta, GA in 1962, where Club Car officially began production.
The 1960s were a fascinating decade in motorsport with some of the most innovative and exciting race cars ever produced. At the top of the food chain were Ferrari and Ford, with the likes of Porsche, Aston Martin and Maserati making a steady but determined progress in the middle.
In the lower tiers were Abarths, MGAs, Austin Healey Sprites and Panhards battling for class wins. Then came Porsche, with their 917 and its mighty twelve-cylinder engines, challenging the top dogs on sheer performance.
1980-1989
The 1980s were a great time for Club Car. During this decade, the company rolled out its first gas-powered golf cart, introduced the DS and the Carryall II, and launched the Precedent i2 fleet golf car.
The decade was also one of the best in terms of innovation and design. The company introduced the FE290, the first overhead valve engine and also created in-demand vehicles specific to customer needs.
The company’s best-known products include the Precedent i2, the Carryall 295, and the Excel Drive System. In 2022, Club Car adds the European equivalent of the Villager 2+2 LSV to its stable of utility vehicles. The company has been in business for over 60 years and it looks like the future is bright! 1990-1999
The 1990s were a productive decade for Club Car. This included the first overhead valve engine, the FE290, on-demand vehicles specific to customer needs, ArmorFlex introduction, and Cafe Express debut.
The DS golf cart created by designer Dom Saporito quickly takes off due to ease of maintenance and longstanding durability, and it propels Club Car into international prominence. The 1 millionth car to roll off the production line was a DS, and that same year, the Precedent i2 is introduced.
The Excel Drive System boosts car efficiency and control, creating a more enjoyable driving experience. The Villager 2+2 LSV is also introduced, allowing consumers to comfortably traverse neighborhoods and downtown as low-speed, street-legal vehicles become more popular. Then, in 2022, Club Car welcomes Garia Utility into the family, bringing its first road-legal utility vehicle to European streets.
2000-2009
